FLEETWERX and Naval Postgraduate School assessment event for secure advanced manufacturing & repair (SAMR) artificial intelligence (AI) & machine learning (ML)

Description

The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing Research and Education (CAMRE) conducts large-scale proof-of-concept exercises designed to identify, iteratively improve, and support the transition of available commercial solutions suitable for enhancing force readiness by application of novel and emerging technologies. This project aims to allow innovators in industry, academia, and government to demonstrate their capabilities in a simulated contested logistics environment for operational validation.

The Joint Force faces significant challenges in maintaining supply chains and logistics capabilities during contested logistics operations, where traditional supply routes maybe compromised or inaccessible. A networked system of littoral and expeditionary point-of-need advanced manufacturing solutions would enable distributed production of critical components and supplies directly where they are needed, reducing vulnerability to supply chain disruptions. NPS CAMRE is seeking innovative solutions that apply artificial intelligence and machine learning for littoral and expeditionary advanced manufacturing and repair at exercises such as the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) in 2026.

Objective

The solution must be at a Technical Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or above at the time of the exercise. NPS CAMRE is seeking solutions in, but not limited, to the following categories:

1.    Digital Infrastructure automated workflow and command and control optimization.

2.    Traditional and UxS last-mile delivery optimization.

3.    Design and reverse engineering optimization suchas through CAD and TDP generation.

4.    Manufacturing and Processing optimizationsuch as through CAM.

5.    Production support through digital bots toassist operators with onsite manufacturing execution by providing procedures suchas how to operate machines.

6.    Software to help optimize supply chaindecision making in areas such aspart intake, manufacturing assignment, anddelivery time.

7.    Real time defect monitoring and correction for production quality optimization.

8.    Computer vision or artificial intelligence tools to assist in the qualification of 3D printed parts for installation into systems.
